Steadicam Operators

The Steadicam changed the face of filming on the move by eliminating the movement of the operator from that of the camera. Indeed, the Steadicam, originally developed by Garrett Brown in the 1970's, combined the steady footage of a conventional tripod mount with the fluid motion of a dolly shot and the flexibility of hand-held camera work. Without this development and now the highly skilled operators that have perfected their use, many shots and techniques that we take for granted would not grace our screens.

Steadicam operators often work with an assistant who carefully controls the focus and zoom of the camera. Combining the skill of both the Steadicam operator and their assistant results in impressive camerawork that cannot be achieved using standard methods and technologies.
