Camera Operators
Camera operators are people who operate film, digital or video cameras for the purposes of recording motion to film, video or a digital storage medium. Camera operators are vital to the smooth running of any film or television set and serve in an official capacity as distinguised members of the film crew. The main job of camera operators is to physically operate the cameras and maintain good composition throughout a given scene or shot. When working in narrative filmmaking careful collaboration with the director, actors and crew will take place to help make technical and creative decisions. Camera operators work as part of a crew along with the director of photography and a number of assistants. Often when filming documentaries and news the camera operators are called in to film unfolding and unscripted events in collaboration with a director or producer. Camera operators have to posess a keen eye for framing shots and choreographing scenes, along with a fundamental knowledge of equipment and lenses uses to portray whatever is required by the script. They also need to posess excellent communication skills as the need to talk to both cast and crew before filming is paramount.
